7 Daniel, It's Finally Coming Together

Daniel takes Ascana home, Daniel tries to explain to the father that Ascana didn’t even try to defend herself because that would mean she would have to betray a professional confidence, and she would not do that. He, Daniel, doesn’t have to worry about that; since what he knows, he simply overheard; it was not told him in confidence.

Ascana’s father half believes Daniel’s explanation. This young man is suspicious, thinks Fernandez. The first time, he comes with Ascana’s doctor’s bag. This time, he has bought her a pretty checkered dress.

Daniel returns to the alley of the previous evening and makes contact with the young couple. He carefully procures their permission to give out their contact information to prospective parents of their newborn.

Daniel finds the Wilsons and relates the situation about the handicapped child being placed in an orphanage. Esther and Jedediah, decide to adopt the baby as their own, relating their desire to the Home/adoption agency.

Ascana comes to Daniel one day pleased with the news that her father is in a good mood hearing of the baby’s adoption. Daniel wants to know how Ascana’s father knows about the adoption, since that is not public information yet. It seems Esther Wilson told her older brother about her soon-to-be child, and Esther Wilson’s older brother had told his friend Fernandez, Ascana’s father!

“I always wanted to do something worthwhile,” Ascana says to Daniel. “At least accept my old doctor’s bag?” And she hands it out to him. She knows he’s using an old diaper bag.

“But that bag will make me look like a doctor, and you know I’m not trying to practice medicine,” Daniel insists.

“Just go on helping people,” Ascana replies.

The doorbell rings then with a postman holding special delivery. A cheque for an exhorbitant amount was made out to a ‘Daniel Train” from “Jonathan Roberts.”

“Jonathan Roberts? Pops?” Ascana exclaims. “But he was living in the cheap end of the city!” She looks over at the mail person who motions her over, confirms the resident’s hidden wealth.

There is a note attached.  It reads: “In appreciation for all you’ve done. My sister Esther says you want to be a doctor. She thinks you ought to go to medical school, and I trust my sister. Use this for entrance free and moving costs, books, other initial necessary expenses, and please get in touch with me: here is my phone number. I will do whatever I can to make sure you graduate, then fund any inner-city health work you see a need for.  Sincerely, Jonathan”
